Brian Galbraith is an experienced Ontario family law lawyer. He is the owner of Galbraith Family Law and has been practicing family law since 1990.

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Brian is the youngest of four children. During his youth, he raised, trained and showed registered Quarter Horses throughout North America, and won numerous awards. Brian attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario from 1983 through 1989, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and his Law degree. He then returned to his western roots and articled at a large legal firm in Calgary, becoming a member of the Alberta bar in 1990. Not long afterwards, he and a partner set up a practice in Calgary with the intent of practicing general litigation law. However, he soon discovered that what he really loved was working closely with his clients and helping them get through a separation or divorce. Brian has been practicing Family Law ever since.

Brian moved to Barrie in 1992 and became a member of the Ontario Bar the next year. He helped bring mediation to Simcoe County as a founding member and shareholder of The Mediation Centre of Simcoe County Inc. It was awarded the contract to conduct all mediations for Family Court in both Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. Brian also served on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation and was its president for two years.

Brian  was instrumental in bringing Collaborative Practice to Simcoe County serving as the president of Collaborative Practice Simcoe County, an organization supporting the promotion and development of Collaborative Practice in the area. He was also president of the Simcoe County Family Law Lawyers’ Association. Brian teaches the Collaborative Team Practice to lawyers and other professionals throughout the world. Brian is now serving on the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.

Brian was married in 1987 and has three teenage boys. He and his spouse separated in 2003. As a result, Brian understands first-hand how his clients feel when going through the separation process. Brian’s boys are his passion though they are all enjoying their own independent lives. Brian found new romance in 2004 and is very happy, enjoying the challenges and pleasures of family life with his new wife. She is a flight attendant with Air Canada and helps with administration in the office. They enjoy the sport of curling together. Nicole is a much better curler than Brian but he enjoys it too. They have two children together so Brian continues to have a “full nest”.

Brian is very grateful. He has four wonderful sons, a sweet daughter, a fantastic supportive wife and a thriving law practice. You can reach Brian at or 705 727-4242 ext 223.
